Leading the Way in Worsted Spun Yarn

When knitters, weavers, and the craft yarn market require diverse spinning capabilities for spun yarn, they turn to Meridian Specialty Yarn Group (MSYG). Recognized as an authority in one of the oldest trades in the world, MSYG spins the largest, most diverse selection of classic yarns anywhere in the United States at our highly diversified mill in Ranlo, NC.

We create yarns from acrylic, wool, polyester, cotton, nylon, olefin, and blended fibers – as well as eco-friendly fibers like Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), organic cotton, and recycled polyester.

Long Staple Ring Spinning Capabilities

As a full-service yarn mill, MSYG offers a complete range of spinning services that leverage world-class equipment and expert operation.

Carding

A crucial step in textile manufacturing, carding converts loose staple fiber into a uniform web or sliver suitable for further processing. We commonly card polyester for blending with wool for apparel and nylon for braided industrial ropes.

Hosiery Ropes

Stretch Breaking

This process converts continuous synthetic tow into a bundle of fibers to a predetermined length, making it suitable for worsted processing. We predominantly convert acrylic fiber for hand knitting and craft yarns.

Fine Count Worsted Ring Spinning

Our Fine Count Worsted Ring Spinning machines convert roving into a single ply yarn. The ring size allows us to to spin yarn counts ranging from 14's - 36's WC. We spin Berry compliant wool and wool blends for use in hosiery, apparel and gloves.

Coarse Count Semi Worsted Ring Spinning

This process converts sliver into yarn with a larger ring size that allows the manufacture of much heavier yarn count (1’s to 12’s WC). These wool and synthetic yarns are ideal for industrial applications, including buffing pads and ropes.

Air-Entangled Texturizing

This entangles filament yarns to add character and bulk via pressurized air and water. The resulting multicolored polypropylene yarns are used as weft yarns for upholstery weaving.

Hollow Spindle

This form of spinning makes heavy bouclés and slub yarns from fiber blends or other component yarns, creating texture and color for effect/accent yarns for upholstery weaving and apparel.

Bedding/Blankets Craft Upholstery Weaving

Fancy Twist

Fancy twisting creates a softer hand for fine-count bouclés made from spun or filament feeder yarns (or any combination of other yarn components).

Multi-Ply Twisting

The bringing together of 2 or more yarns by wrapping the yarns around each other. This increases strength and creates a balanced yarn with no torque. Meridian has both conventional ring twisting predominantly for coarse counts and two for one twisting for finer counts – up to 4 ply - adds texture, loft, strength and bulk to primarily ring-spun yarns, creating plied yarns with up to four ends in solid or multi-colored yarn.
